I Love Fireworks

By Squee

I am very tired today. So tired, that I fell asleep on the rug in front of the TV, and when I woke up, I had funny lines on my face that Mummy and Daddy said were “imprints” from the rug. Even Noah crawling all over me couldn’t wake me up. Mummy wanted to wake me up for my dinner, which was noodles. Actually it was spaghetti, but because I had asked for noodles earlier and Mummy couldn’t find any, she cooked spaghetti and hoped I wouldn’t notice. I was too tired even to have a tantrum.

I am tired because yesterday was National Swiss Day and Noah and I didn’t go to bed until after midnight. I had one of the best days of my life.

The best part of the day started when Karen, Simon and Will came over to look at some furniture that Mummy and Daddy have in the garage. I was happy to see Will, as he plays me with a lot, even though he is 9 years old. He is like a really cool older brother. I already have a brother called Noah, but sometimes he is annoying because he snatches my toys and then Mummy tells me to share.

Mummy opened some wine. She kept saying “Why not? It’s Swiss Day!” (She said it a lot yesterday, although later in the day the words got a bit muddled.)

I think that Mummy, Daddy, Karen and Simon were all really thirsty, as they drank a lot of wine. I didn’t mind, as Will, Noah and I got to eat sweets, lollipops and play on the Wii. We ran around outside and also played in my bedroom. There was one big mess, but Mummy seemed too thirsty to worry about it.

The day got even better when Angela, Gedeon, Chloe and Yannick arrived. Chloe brought her hula hoop with her. Mummy made chicken burgers, salad and potatoes and I sat outside with my friends having a little “dinner party”. After our dinner party, Mummy said she was going to make prawns for the grown-ups. The prawns were magic, as they started out big and grey and turned pink (my favourite colour) when she stirred them with her magic wooden spoon. They smelled really spicy. I like spicy and I’m only two.

After dinner, Mummy, Daddy, Angela and Karen sang karaoke. I danced around as they pretended to be David Bowie and Freddie Mercury and sang “Under Pressure”. They sang a lot of Queen songs. I love Queen. “We Will Rock You” is my favourite song in the world.

Then Mummy and Daddy told me they had a surprise. We were all going to go out to the Lake and watch fireworks. I saw fireworks when I was a baby, but I don’t really remember. I have tried “remembering”, by keeping really still and closing my eyes (like the owl, Plop, in the book “The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark” that Mummy reads to us at Story Time). I can’t seem to remember the fireworks, though. I can only remember when I last ate chocolate.

We all walked to the Lake and when we got there it was amazing. There were coloured bangs in the sky and it was very loud, but very pretty. The Lake and the sky were lit up and looked like they were on fire. There was music playing and I danced the whole time, even though I was tired. Mummy said that I had found my “second wind”. It wasn’t windy, though. And my bottom wasn’t windy, either, so I don’t really know what she meant.

Mummy looked the happiest I think I have ever seen her. Daddy looked really happy too and I felt very warm inside. Mummy is beautiful when she is happy.

We came home at midnight and Daddy put us straight to bed. I felt so tired I could barely get into bed and when I did, I don’t remember anything else at all.

So yesterday was one of my best days ever. I love Villeneuve, I love our new friends and I love fireworks. I don’t like being this tired, though, and I don’t like “imprints”, because they make me look silly.
